Sleeping Beauty

CLASS DESCRIPTION

This fun & interactive theater class for our elementary-aged students will provide a supportive, creative environment in which to hone the young actor’s skills. As they discover and develop their unique strengths and talents, they’ll work towards putting them together in a fun, creative and expressive way; and they’ll build confidence too. Under the guidance of theatre professionals, actors will learn lines, create characters, and construct costumes based on the beloved fairytale, “Sleeping Beauty,” which was tailored especially for their age group. The class culminates in ticketed finale performances at a local venue.

ABOUT THE SHOW

We are pleased to announce that our script is written by our very own Premier Family member: Ms. Anna Engstrom.  Adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name. Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil witch Maleficent – who declares that before the sun sets on Aurora’s 16th birthday she will die by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel’s spindle. To try to prevent this, the fairies persuade the king to place her into hiding, in the care of two, good-natured – but not too bright – fairies.

PRODUCING A SHOW DURING THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT:

All rehearsals will be held in-person in a large space that promotes social distancing (especially when the students are not onstage).  The location for the rehearsals is Duneland Community Church in Chesterton.  For rehearsals, we will encourage students to wear masks onstage and (especially) offstage.  For performances, students will not be able to wear masks onstage (unless there are extenuating circumstances) but we will try to create as much space backstage to encourage social distancing when the students are not performing.

THE SHOW PACKAGE INCLUDES:

  • Instruction in acting and stage movement movement taught by trained and experienced Theatre Professionals (20+ hours of training!)
