High School Musical Jr.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

This fun & intensive musical theatre performance experience is designed for theater-loving students to develop their confidence, character and presentation skills through ensemble performance. Open to all actors, regardless of previous performing experience, this program encourages aspiring artists and future audiences through a wide array of classes, workshops and experiences. Our staff of experienced Theatre Professionals work closely with the actors to immerse our cast in an active rehearsal process that features an authorized, age-appropriate script and score from the popular Broadway show (& movie!) that enables all actors to successfully stretch their skills regardless of his/her experience level. The program culminates in one weekend of ticketed, public performances at a local venue.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life on stage in Disney’s High School Musical JR.  Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities. The show’s infectious, danceable songs are sure to engage performers and audiences alike.

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. The couple cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

PRODUCING A SHOW DURING THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT:

Rehearsals will be a mix of virtual and in-person sessions.  Virtual rehearsals will be held via Zoom.  The in-person sessions will be held in a large space that promotes social distancing (especially when the students are not onstage).  The location for the in-person sessions is Duneland Community Church in Chesterton or at a local, outdoor venue.  For in-person rehearsals early in the process, we will encourage students to wear masks onstage and (especially) offstage.  As we get closer to performance, it will not be possible to mandate masks when students are onstage since there is heavy singing and dancing in this show (but we will encourage the use of masks once students go offstage).  Students will not be able to wear masks onstage during dress rehearsals and performances but we will try to create as much space backstage to encourage social distancing.

THE SHOW PACKAGE INCLUDES:

  • 80+ hours of Rehearsal Lead by Professional Performers
